Description

The Ibanez AEG1221 is a 12-string electro-acoustic guitar designed to deliver the wide, bright sound characteristic of this format in a comfortable and manageable AEG body. Its spruce top pairs with sapeli sides and back, providing a balanced and defined response, while the cutaway allows easy access to the higher frets on the neck.

The Comfort Grip neck made of nyatoh and the Macassar ebony fingerboard offer a comfortable and precise playing experience, which is especially important on a 12-string guitar. For live performance or recording, it features an Ibanez T-bar II pickup under the saddle and an AEQ-TTS preamp with volume and Shape controls, plus a built-in tuner.

Our Opinion

The AEG1221 is an especially appealing choice for players seeking the character of a 12-string without the bulk of a large acoustic body. Its AEG format and Comfort Grip profile make it more comfortable to play than many traditional 12-strings, while still delivering that rich, harmonic-filled sound ideal for strumming, arpeggios, and open chords.

Additionally, the T-bar II system combined with the AEQ-TTS preamp makes it a very practical guitar for live performances. We believe it’s a great option for musicians wanting to add a 12-string to their setup with simple electronics, easy access to higher registers, and a distinctive Black Out aesthetic that stands out from the usual.

About IBANEZ

Ibanez is a manufacturer of guitars and basses based in Japan. Its name honors Spanish luthier Salvador Ibáñez, whose excellent guitars were distributed in Japan by Hoshino Gakki. The 1929 recession affected the company, leading to its closure in 1933. The Japanese market was left without supply, so in 1935, the importer decided to start manufacturing Spanish guitars independently and distributed them under the name "Ibanez Salvador." Later, the brand was renamed simply "Ibanez."
