Description

The Ampeg SCR-DI Bass Scrambler DI combines preamp, equalization, DI box, and overdrive in a single unit designed specifically for bass. Its preamp section is based on the classic Ampeg character, allowing you to dial in warm, round tones or more aggressive settings with increased attack and presence, suitable for both live performance and recording.

It features a 3-band equalizer with Ultra-Hi and Ultra-Lo filters, as well as the Scrambler Bass Overdrive circuit, designed to add anything from subtle saturation to a more aggressive tone inspired by an SVT pushed to the limit. Connectivity options include a balanced XLR output with Ground Lift, headphone output, and Aux input, making it very practical for personal studio use and silent practice.

Our Opinion

The SCR-DI is especially appealing for bassists looking to simplify their setup without sacrificing options. It can stay fixed at the end of your pedalboard as a preamp and DI, connect directly to the mixing console, and still provide a recognizable Ampeg sound without relying on the amplifier in the room.

The built-in Scrambler adds versatility beyond a conventional DI. You can use it subtly to dirty the tone or activate it when you need the bass to stand out in a specific section. The Aux input and headphones also make it a useful pedal for silent practice or situations outside of live performance.

About Ampeg Amplification

The Ampeg brand was founded with the goal of meeting the amplification needs of bassists at the time, aiming to match the emerging electric guitar sound.

As Rock 'n' Roll exploded in popularity, their small tube combo amps evolved into larger units suitable for big stages and larger audiences. Interestingly, they were pioneers in incorporating reverb into guitar amplifiers, predating Fender's famous Vibroverb.
