The Prism was designed using a "tone shaping" approach to craft the sound. While this pedal contains many features and circuits, those circuits are precisely designed to work harmoniously together, creating a unique tone modeling tool with unmatched flexibility and performance.
EQ
Active equalizer provides incredible tonal control and has ZERO interaction between the BODY and TONE controls. Having ZERO interaction means that when we adjust the TONE, it only affects the high-frequency response and does not cause the bass frequencies to change, and the same applies to the BODY control. The most useful feature of the active EQ in the Prism is that when placed first in the pedal chain as a master EQ, you can set your main tone with just one pedal, avoiding the need to adjust the EQ on each pedal in your setup when changing guitars, amps, or locations.
Boost/Preamp
The Prism features three very distinct boost voices:
- Trans: A clean, transparent boost with no tonal coloration using JFET transistors
- Amp: Saturation emulating a tube amplifier through MOSFET transistors
- Color: The gain circuit that started it all, a treble booster with silicon transistors
These three circuits represent over 50 years of guitar effects, from the oldest guitar pedal ever built to the most modern transparent sound circuits.
Buffer
The Prism is a true bypass pedal with a dedicated silent switching circuit using relays with a soft-touch 'momentary switch' to achieve bypass. Relay switching is much more stable than traditional mechanical true bypass methods. The relays have a lifespan of over 100,000 cycles. The Prism includes a high-current buffer at the end of the circuit to strengthen its signal and preserve its tone, regardless of how complex your pedalboard is or the cable length to the amplifier.
Switching/Programming Mode
The switch is used to turn the pedal on/off and also to enter programming mode.
To enter programming mode, hold the switch for five seconds. While in programming mode, turn the BOOST control to set the indicator light brightness.
Press the switch three times to toggle the pedal's active state between ON (green) and OFF (yellow).
Hold the switch again for five seconds to save the settings.
Internal Voltage Regulator
This pedal has an internal regulator that takes the incoming DC (direct current) voltage from the power supply and regulates it to a precise 9V. Running the Prism at 18V will not improve the tone or alter it in any way. It will simply cause the regulator to heat up more, shortening its lifespan.
