HOW TO CHECK WHETHER A CASE WILL FIT YOUR INSTRUMENT

This is one of the questions we hear most often in the shop: “Will my guitar fit?”. The answer depends on the model.

Before buying, check three things:

  • Body shape: a Stratocaster, Les Paul, SG or hollow-body guitar will not require the same internal shape.
  • Instrument measurements: particularly the overall length, width and depth.
  • Internal fit: the instrument should be held securely without moving around inside the case.

If you are unsure about a particular model, contact us or visit our shop. It is better to check before ordering than to receive a case that does not fit properly.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A GIG BAG, SOFT CASE, STYROFOAM CASE, HARD CASE AND FLIGHT CASE?

The main differences are the level of protection, weight and type of construction. There are also intermediate options between a soft gig bag and a traditional hard case, including soft cases and Styrofoam cases.

In short: a gig bag is the most convenient option if keeping the weight down is your priority. A soft case or Styrofoam case can provide a practical middle ground if you want more protection without the weight of a traditional hard case. A flight case makes sense when the instrument travels frequently or is transported alongside amplifiers, stands and other equipment.

WHAT TO CHECK BEFORE BUYING YOUR CASE

Before choosing, check:

  1. The exact instrument you own.
  2. The shape of its body.
  3. The internal dimensions of the case.
  4. Whether you need room for strings, a strap, tuner or other accessories.
  5. Whether you will use it at home, during rehearsals, at gigs or while travelling.

Choosing the right case helps prevent excess movement, unnecessary knocks and purchases that are not compatible with your instrument.

Will an electric guitar case fit any model?

Not always. A Stratocaster, Telecaster, Les Paul, SG or hollow-body guitar may require a different type of case. The shape of the body is a key factor.

Which is better: a high-quality gig bag or a hard case?

It depends on what matters most to you: comfort, protection or ease of transport. A premium gig bag, such as the Armour ARMUNOG, can be very convenient if you travel frequently and want to carry your guitar on your back. A hard case, such as those made by Rapsody, generally offers better protection if you travel by car, store the instrument for long periods or transport it alongside other equipment.

How do I know whether my acoustic guitar will fit in the case?

Check the body type and measurements. With acoustic guitars, the depth of the body is particularly important, as well as its overall length and width.

Which case do you recommend for travelling by plane or train?

It depends on the transport operator’s conditions. Before travelling, check whether the instrument can be taken into the cabin, transported as special luggage or must be checked into the hold.

When is a flight case worth buying?

A flight case is worthwhile if you play frequent gigs, travel with more equipment or transport the instrument in a van, around stages or as part of a shared load. For more occasional use, a good hard case or even a well-padded gig bag will usually be sufficient.
