The Boss RE-2 Space Echo recreates the authentic sounds of the classic Roland Space Echo 15 years after the original RE-20 was released.
- Classic multi-head tape echo sound with extended delay time
- Expression pedal input
- 11 different echo/reverb types
- Tap Tempo and Carryover functions
With the RE-2, the authentic sound and behavior of the Space Echo are now available in the famous compact BOSS series for the first time. Backed by intensive research and development and our latest innovations, the RE-2 delivers the coveted magic of the RE-201 in a pedalboard-friendly design, crafted with impeccable detail by the company that designed the original.
The RE-2 captures the full sonic character of the RE-201 in the classic BOSS compact pedal format. The 11-position mode selector lets you dial in different virtual tape heads with or without spring reverb, and you can balance the echo/reverb blend with independent level knobs. Each behavior is precisely replicated, including the gradual tone shift that occurs with repeat rate and the runaway feedback when the intensity knob is maxed out. And with the expressive Wow & Flutter control, you can conjure all the natural modulation characteristics essential to the Space Echo sound.

About the RE-201
Introduced in 1974 and produced for over 14 years, the Roland RE-201 Space Echo is one of the most legendary and sought-after effects units in music history. Known for its distinctive rhythmic echo sounds, warm character, and highly playable sonic quirks, this tape-based classic has continued to inspire musicians, producers, and audio engineers for more than four decades.
When tape-based echoes were the standard in the music world, the RE-201 was the leader in its class. Equipped with three evenly spaced tape heads and a spring reverb tank, it could produce everything from simple, clean delays to dense, atmospheric echoes. The appealing sound of the RE-201 was influenced by many factors, from the warm compression of magnetic tape saturation to the evolving modulation produced by motor speed fluctuations, friction, and other elements. Last but not least, the analog preamp circuit was a key ingredient in the rich sonic recipe of the Space Echo.
