The Tape Delay was invented in the late 1940s when Les Paul chained two reel-to-reel Ampex Model 200A tape recorders. Shortly after, in 1953, Ray Butts invented the Echosonic, the first tape delay unit. This was followed by the Echoplex EP-1 in 1961 by Mike Battle and Roland's Space Echo in 1974. The Tape Delay of the JHS Pedals Series 3 is a simplified and faithful homage to these classic units. The Mix control allows you to adjust the amount of dry signal mixed with the wet (delayed) signal (in the original unit, this was called Echo Volume).
Tape Speed simulates the acceleration and deceleration of the RE-201's tape motor and determines the duration of the delay effect. The Repeats control ranges from a single echo to multiple repeats, as if recording a sound on the tape loop with decreasing fidelity each time. Finally, activating the Flutter switch (upper position) reproduces the mechanical wear of a tape recorder's components that occurs over time. This produces smooth modulation, warble, and flutter sounds in the delay echo path, highly sought after by many musicians.

About JHS Pedals
JHS was founded in 2007 by Joshua Heath Scott, who used his initials for branding. Josh started by modifying BOSS pedals for himself and friends, then began developing his own circuits, such as the Morning Glory: one of his first pedals, based on the Marshall Bluesbreaker, which is still in production today. Over time, Josh built a passionate team, elevating JHS to a prominent position in the global guitar effects scene.
