When we talk about the Catalinbread Dirty Little Secret, we’re actually referring to two amplifiers: the Marshall Super Lead and the Marshall Super Bass. The internal switch allows you to toggle between these two beasts. - Super Lead: A mode that delivers the high gain of Plexi and modified JCMs, rich in harmonics and highly responsive to your picking attack. It pairs well with powerful humbucker-equipped guitars. Like any Plexi, you can go from sparkling cleans to aggressive distortion just by turning your guitar’s volume knob. - Super Bass: Based on the tone stack of early Plexis, very close to the JTM45. It has that gritty tone that sits between clean and overdriven—not too clean, but not overly saturated either. These amps worked perfectly with transistor-based Fuzz Faces and Strats, delivering a rounded and thick sound. Two in one. Switching from SL to SB reconfigures the pedal’s gain structure noticeably.
