Manuel Rodríguez guitars have a long history dating back to the early 20th century. The brand is descended from the flamenco guitarist Manuel Rodríguez Marequi and has a tradition of guitar making that began with fully artisanal craftsmanship in Madrid. Later, Manuel Rodríguez emigrated to Los Angeles, where he built guitars for American actors and artists. In 1973, the company returned to Spain with the aim of offering its catalog to the global market.
