Ibanez SR1320SBIVF Icebreaker Wave Flat

The Ibanez SR1320SB is a 4-string electric bass from the SR Premium series that combines the characteristic ergonomics of Soundgear with a component selection designed to deliver a defined, powerful, and versatile sound. Its African mahogany body features a sandy ash top that provides a striking aesthetic, while the five-piece Atlas-4 neck made of Panga Panga and Purpleheart, reinforced with KTS titanium rods, offers stability and a quick, precise response.

It is equipped with two passive Nordstrand Big Break pickups, designed with a split coil soapbar configuration to deliver a full-bodied sound with punch while maintaining clarity and a low noise level. The Ibanez Custom 3-band electronics include a mid-frequency selector and an EQ bypass switch, allowing the instrument to operate in active or passive mode. The MR5S bridge, Gotoh tuning machines, and premium edge treatment on the fret ends complete a bass that is especially refined in both comfort and tonal versatility.

Our Opinion

The SR1320SB exemplifies what the Premium line offers within the Soundgear family: a lightweight, comfortable bass with components clearly above standard. The Atlas-4 neck maintains that fast, manageable feel typical of SRs, while the 19 mm string spacing provides ample room for fingerstyle and slap techniques.

The Nordstrand Big Break pickups are one of its main highlights. They offer more body and punch than traditional single coils but retain a good level of clarity and definition, making them suitable for both modern sounds and more natural tones. Additionally, being able to combine the three-band EQ with a fully passive operation makes this bass especially versatile for live and studio use.
