The Ibanez UB804 is a 4-string electric upright bass designed to bring the response and expressive potential of a double bass into a much more compact and portable format. Its Neck-Thru construction features a five-piece maple and walnut neck combined with maple wings, providing a clear response, good attack, and a solid structure suitable for fingerstyle and bowing techniques.
Its fretless Jatoba fingerboard uses a 34" scale length, making it particularly accessible for electric bassists looking to explore the world of upright playing. The Custom AeroSilk MR5 bridge incorporates the AeroSilk piezo system, developed to deliver a more open and acoustic response, with active tone control and the ability to individually adjust the gain of each string's piezo. Our Opinion
The UB804 is a particularly appealing option for electric bassists wanting to approach the sound and playing style of a double bass without dealing with the size, transport, and setup required by a traditional acoustic. The 34" scale length is familiar and makes the transition from an electric bass much less drastic.
One of its key strengths is the AeroSilk system, which provides a more organic response closer to the character of an upright than a conventional fretless electric. The generous 30 mm string spacing also facilitates finger and bow work. Due to its size, ease of transport, and sound possibilities, it is especially practical for live performances, jazz, acoustic sessions, studio work, or for musicians who need an upright sound without carrying a traditional double bass.
