The PAF Pro was developed during a time when intensive playing styles and high-gain amplifiers and rack systems were becoming popular. It was designed to combine a lot of presence and "cut" with an open, PAF-style sound. Its transparent tone allows the PAF Pro to cut through heavy processing, where darker-sounding pickups can get lost in the effects chain's mud. The low notes have both snap and bite, and there's a mid-range peak that gives the pickup a subtle vocal "aw" sound, similar to a wah pedal stopped in the middle. The treble response is adjusted to produce highs that stand out without becoming brittle. The PAF Pro is an excellent neck pickup for almost any guitar and makes an exceptional bridge pickup when high output isn't required.
