The bandurria is the smallest and highest-pitched member of the lute family. This teardrop-shaped zither, similar to a mandolin, features a very short and wide neck. Over the past 200 years, the tunings and construction of the bandurria have evolved in regions colonized by the Spanish. Today, it has twelve steel strings arranged in six pairs tuned in unison and is popular in Spain, South America, and the Philippines.
