Description
The Original Wah Pedal has been fully recreated — nothing is more authentic than the true McCoy! Iconic wah pedals are synonymous with rock performances of the 60s and 70s, so every effort has been made to deliver a genuine, authentic recreation of the most famous and original wah pedals. Custom-made, hand-selected components have been used to replicate the tonal qualities of the 1960s McCoy Wah pedal with extreme precision. The “Halo” inductor is the quintessential element of vintage wah. By meticulously analyzing the characteristics of the inductors in vintage units, we successfully replicated the Halo inductor for our wah pedals. The Real McCoy, known for its iconic nasal tone, emphasizes the midrange, imparting a warm, melodic quality perfect for expressive lead guitar work that highlights each note’s articulation. ![Image](https://www.matguitars.com/img/cms/VOX%20Amplification/VOX_Real-McCoy_image13-2-scaled-e1705689912655.jpg) The potentiometer, a variable resistor, is the core component that drives the wah sweep. When copying the potentiometer from the vintage unit, careful adjustments were made to ensure an almost identical curve. The VRM-1 and V846 Vintage models use different resistance curves and values. ![Image](https://www.matguitars.com/img/cms/VOX%20Amplification/Vox-V846-Vintage-Wah-pedal-gal-8.jpg) Using the appropriate transistor, specifically the BC108 model with identical numbering and appearance to its vintage counterpart, allowed for a precise component match. This setup requires careful assembly due to its interaction with the bottom plate, an integral part of the transistor’s terminals. Although similar transistors are available, tonal variations compared to 1960s components necessitated a custom circuit for tone adjustment. ![Image](https://www.matguitars.com/img/cms/VOX%20Amplification/VOX_Real-McCoy_image11-2-scaled-e1705690292830.jpg) In guitar amplifiers, “carbon composition” resistors were once highly prized. However, by the late 1960s, cost-effective and consistently reliable “carbon film” resistors became standard. The VOX Wah, introduced in 1968, also adopted carbon film resistors. Still, in the new VOX Wah pedals, larger 1/2 W carbon film resistors are used to faithfully reproduce the tonal characteristics of the classic Wah.
