Electro-Harmonix Big Muff Pi 2, an analog fuzz pedal from the Big Muff Pi family. Designed with a Dual Op-Amp circuit for versatile distortion.
- Dual Op-Amp Circuit
- Volume, Tone, and Sustain controls
- Provides a slightly more dynamic and crunchy response than a classic Big Muff
- Latching/momentary footswitch
- True bypass switching
- Powered by 9 V power supply
The Electro-Harmonix Big Muff Pi 2 revives a nearly lost design from the late 1970s based on dual operational amplifiers. Building on the classic Big Muff DNA, it offers a slightly more dynamic response, with deep bass, crisper highs, and a slightly less refined clipping character that gives it a unique personality within the family.
It retains the classic Volume, Tone, and Sustain controls for easy adjustment, but adds a particularly practical feature in the footswitch: besides the standard latching operation, it allows momentary activation of the effect by holding down the switch. All housed in a compact chassis, with analog circuitry, true bypass, and powered by a 9 V battery or external power supply.

Our Opinion
This Big Muff Pi 2 makes a lot of sense for players seeking the sustain and rich sound typical of a Muff, but with a rougher, less rounded edge than the classic model. Its slightly more dynamic response prevents it from feeling overly compressed, and the rougher high end helps give it a very distinctive personality.
We especially like that it’s not just another reissue. It’s inspired by a historical idea from EHX that never made it to production at the time, turning it into a very usable fuzz pedal today. It’s a great choice for those already familiar with the Big Muff sound who want a different variation within the family without straying far from its core character.
