The PRS HDRX 20 is a 20 W tube head inspired by late 1960s British-style amplifiers. Its “Authentic Hendrix” Touring Circuit is based on the study of one of Jimi Hendrix's personal amplifiers, aiming for a dynamic response, creamy midrange, and clear treble that maintains definition without sounding shrill.
Its two channels are internally linked and feature independent volume controls for bass and treble, allowing for blending without the need for an external cable. It includes a three-band EQ, Bright switch, High-Mid Gain switch, Presence, and Master volume, delivering everything from clean, characterful tones to British-style crunch and saturation.

The PRS HDRX series features amplifiers and speaker cabinets inspired by the British sound of the late 1960s. Its design is based on a circuit inspired by one of Jimi Hendrix's personal amplifiers, developed by Paul Reed Smith and designer Doug Sewell. This family is known for delivering clear treble without harshness, balanced bass, and a dynamic response capable of transitioning from smooth, clean sounds to powerful, expressive saturation.
Our Opinion
If you're looking for that classic British tone with open crunch, characterful mids, and responsive pick attack, the HDRX 20 is an especially compelling choice. It works very well for blues rock, classic rock, psychedelia, and styles where you want to control saturation via the guitar's volume knob.
What we like most is the ability to blend the two internal channels: you can use the treble channel for definition and add the bass channel to add body without losing clarity. Additionally, the Master volume allows you to achieve preamp saturation at more manageable levels than a vintage British amp with high power, though it remains a head with enough volume for rehearsals and small gigs.
