The Dual Sound is the original 4-conductor version of the Super Distortion. Originally, the main purpose of the 4-conductor wiring was to switch between series and parallel modes. It is now popular in H-S-H pickup configurations at the bridge position, where it can be split to single-coil mode in combination with a middle-position pickup such as the True Velvet. This combination produces very Strat-like tones because the warm character and high output of the Dual Sound allow the single-coil mode to balance well with most single coils.
