Shadow Electronics was founded in 1971 in Erlangen, Germany by Joe Marinic, who remains the owner and operator of the company to this day.The original concept was to produce guitars and solid-body pickups, but Joe ultimately decided to focus exclusively on pickups.

Currently, Shadow develops the revolutionary NanoFlex transducer and the NanoMAG magnetic pickup systems, which allow musicians to adjust the volume on individual strings.Their Panaflex system uses a dual NanoFlex pickup mounted beneath the saddle for independent tone and volume control for the bass and treble strings.
