For over 30 years, the key component of Tom Morello's raw, powerful sonic voice has been his amplifier setup. The MXR Power 50 Overdrive captures the sound and functionality of that setup to use with any platform, whether you have a simple combo amp or a high-end 'stack'.
Authentic amplifier tones recreated from scratch
The Power 50 Overdrive circuit uses MOSFET technology to recreate Tom's amplifier's preamp stages for performance that’s remarkably similar to a real amplifier, capable of producing those big, twisted tones. Tom relies solely on his amplifier for his signature distortion tones, and when you step on the Power 50 Overdrive, you'll understand why.
A full range of controls taken directly from the amplifier
The Power 50 Overdrive features the same control layout as Tom's amplifier, with gain, bass, mid, treble, volume, and presence knobs, allowing you to replicate his exact setup or tailor the sound to your liking.
The FX Loop
Tom runs all his effects pedals through his amplifier’s effects loop, giving his signal chain a unique tonal twist. The Power 50 Overdrive also recreates this feature, so you can give your signal chain that same character. Its own FX loop taps into the raw, unprocessed signal before the Presence control and custom tone shaping at the output.
