The earliest oil can echoes were created by Tel-Rey in 1959. Repeats were achieved by writing a static charge onto a small spinning disc inside a can, using oil as a dielectric lubricant. This innovative method produces sounds vastly different from those of a tape recorder, instantly transporting the listener to a darker, murkier place that exudes authentic energy.

The numerous variables in the design made authentic emulation challenging, requiring extensive research and a completely new algorithm to achieve the realism we aimed for. We are confident that Olivera captures the essence of the original units, from dark repeats with unique rhythmic and decay characteristics to dense, surreal modulation that evolves and transforms with the audio. No other delay type can do what an oil can does, and no other pedal emulation comes close to Olivera.
