The VR1 is a passive ribbon microphone designed to highlight the bite and sharpness of our guitar cabinets without adding those overly harsh high frequencies.

- Aluminum ribbon
- Frequency response: 20Hz - 18KHz
The VR1 is a passive ribbon microphone designed to enhance the biting and sharp sound of our guitar cabinets without adding those muddy high frequencies. The VR2, an active ribbon microphone, can bring violins and vocals directly to the forefront of the stereo mix your listeners will hear. sE's VR ribbon microphones represent a new era in ribbon microphone technology. Until the VR Series, the only ribbon microphone capable of operating in the 20Hz-20kHz range was our own Rupert Neve collaboration product, the RNR1. This was achieved using state-of-the-art custom transformers and a circuit designed by Rupert Neve to reveal the typically absent HF response.
With the VR microphones, full-frequency response is achieved through an intelligent mechanical device designed by Siwei Zou, the company's CEO, and a carefully tensioned ribbon built by our highly specialized technicians in the capsule manufacturing room of sE. The result is an extraordinarily detailed, open, and natural recording of acoustic instruments and guitar cabinets. The VR1 and VR2's performance capabilities, along with their unique appearance, have already made them secret weapons for top musicians and engineers worldwide, including Queens of the Stone Age, Billy Gibbons, August Greene, My Morning Jacket, Pete Thorn, Steve Stevens, John Browne, Neil Cappellino, Linkin Park, Band of Horses, Taking Back Sunday, Paramore, Black Sabbath, David Hodges, and many more.
